JOIN OUR COMMUNITY OF LITTLE LEARNERS!
Pinecones & Playtime is a half-day outdoor preschool committed to creating a community of little learners who feel safe, engaged and excited to try new things, make friends, help others, practice kindness, explore nature and build independence.
We provide half-day childcare, morning or afternoon, for students ages 2.5-5 that is focused on building community and inspired by Montessori, Respectful Parenting, Big Little Feelings and play-based philosophies.
Our outdoor preschool was created by parents who believe kids deserve to be kids and that children thrive in the outdoors, learning best through a mix of structured and unstructured independent and group play.
Classes include teacher-guided instruction, reading, singing, games, yoga, stretching, Spanish, sign language, digging, gardening, neighborhood walks, free play, dancing, building, art, running and exploring.
We focus on social and emotional development, helping kids to build confidence and inquisitiveness while gaining independence, self-esteem and leadership skills through cooperative learning projects. Kindergarten-ready activities will be incorporated as well.
We will learn about and celebrate the unique seasons of the Pacific Northwest as well as holidays throughout the year (we love a good Halloween parade!). We’ll get to know each other better through a weekly show-and-tell day and student-of-the-week spotlight.
1:6 teacher to student ratio with no more than 12 children enrolled in the morning or afternoon sessions. Two teachers will always be present when more than six children are in attendance.
Our learning environment features several covered, open-air areas and multiple different surfaces to explore including raised gardens, a large dirt digging area and the surrounding neighborhood made up of incredibly kind neighbors. An indoor restroom with child-sized toilet and sink is provided.
Every child has their own unique learning style and we welcome all children ages 2.5–5 years old. We will meet each student where they are at to ensure they can learn alongside their peers.
Science is real, love is love, kindness is everything and diversity makes us stronger.
Everyone should be treated with respect.
Teachers will collaborate with students to ensure they feel supported, heard, loved and valued.
Kids are the bosses of their own bodies.
Being independent and asking for help is okay.
We encourage students to be independent, to speak up for themselves and for others,
and to feel empowered to problem solve on their own while also fostering an environment where kids feel comfortable asking for help.
There is no singular approach that is best for everyone. By incorporating multiple teaching philosophies, we can adapt to meet each child's needs, build confidence and teach independence while simultaneously encouraging creativity, curiosity and a love of learning.
What we say and how we say it matters. We frame things in the positive as much as possible, stating what you can do (not what you can’t) to help build confidence in kids through an uplifting, safe and nurturing environment.
